NEW YORK (Scrap Register): United States hot rolled cold (HRC) steel weekly average prices declined further by $25 a short ton week-on-week to $566 a short ton in the week ended January 23, as per The Steel Index.
According to TSI, the price decline went into overdrive the week bringing Midwest spot prices to $566/s. ton FOB mill, over $100/s. ton lower than a little over three months ago.
Mills’ eagerness to fill order books is seeing asking prices drop at a dramatic rate, with buyers happy to bide their time before placing orders.
