The arrival of offseason demand and the Beijing APEC meeting will significantly influence operating rate in the domestic galvanizing sector in November, Steelease estimates.

SHANGHAI, Oct. 28 (SMM) – Almost 20 million-tpy hot galvanizing capacities in Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei will be negatively impacted by intensified environmental protection inspections ahead of the upcoming Beijing APEC meeting, Shanghai Metals Market’s ferrous branch Steelease survey shows.

Those capacities, making up 80% of the total across Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei, mainly locate in Tianjin, and in Bazhou and Tangshan of Hebei Province.

Producers in Hebei’s Hengshui and Handan, 300 km away from Beijing, are not required to stop production unless heavy pollution days happen, according to Steelease survey.

“The negative impact from Beijing APEC meeting will be small”, one large galvanizer in Hengshui told Steelease.
