MUMBAI (Scrap Monster): According to trade statistics, India’s pig iron exports during the first seven months of the year surged higher by 19.4% over the previous year. The cumulative exports during the period totaled 526,000 tons.
During the seven-month period, South Korea was the top importer of pig iron from India. The South Korean imports totaled 248,000 tons during Jan-Jul ’14, accounting for 47% of the total exports by India.
The second largest export destination of India pig iron was Thailand. The exports to Thailand totaled 161,000 tons, accounting for 31% of the total Indian exports. The exports to Taiwan surged by 397% over the previous year.
In third place was Taiwan with 53,000 tons, 274% higher when compared with the figures during January to July in 2013.
The country’s pig iron exports averaged at 75,000 tons during January to July this year. The pig iron exports by the country are estimated to reach 900,000 tons during the entire year 2014.
