Scrap imports by Vietnam surged 10% in September

The most recently released trade data indicates that scrap imports by Vietnam during the month of September this year increased by 10% when compared with a month ago.

TOKYO (Scrap Monster): The most recently released trade data indicates that scrap imports by Vietnam during the month of September this year increased by 10% when compared with a month ago.

Vietnam imported 284,000 tons of scrap during September ’14. This is 9.8% higher when compared with the imports during August this year. The scrap imports by the country had totaled 258,000 tons during August ’14.

The cumulative scrap imports by Vietnam during the initial nine months of the year totaled 2.54 million tons. The imports during the period increased marginally by 1.8% when compared with the corresponding nine-month period in 2013. Vietnam’s scrap imports had totaled 2.50 million tons during January to September last year.

The total value generated by scrap imports were also up in September over the previous month. The import values rose 9.6% over the month to $157 million.

The country’s scrap imports are estimated to total nearly 3.4 million tons during the entire year 2014.
