CANTERBURY (Scrap Monster): According to most recent trade statistics, the scrap exports by the EU-27 countries increased during the initial six-month period of the current year.
The region’s scrap exports totaled 8.55 million tons during January to June this year, 5.1% higher when compared with the exports during the corresponding six-month period in 2013. The EU-27 countries had exported 8.14 million tons of scrap during H1 2013.
The largest export destination of scrap exports from the EU region was Turkey. Turkey imported 5.15 million tons of EU scrap, accounting for 60% of the total EU scrap exports. The scrap exports to Turkey were up 12.8% during Jan-June this year, upon comparison with the previous year.
The second largest importer of EU scrap was Egypt. The country imported 1.04 million tons of scrap from the EU, accounting for 12% of the total scrap exports by the region. The scrap exports to Egypt were 5.4% higher when compared with the previous year.
The total scrap exports by the EU region during the entire year 2014 are projected to touch 17.11 million tons.
