Nujiang Dingsheng Metallurgical Chemical Co., Ltd. halted production today after an explosion killed four people, SMM learns.

SHANGHAI, Oct. 15 (SMM) – Nujiang Dingsheng Metallurgical Chemical Co., Ltd. halted production today after an explosion killed four people, SMM learns.

One 12,500 KVA furnace in the company exploded Monday evening, killing four people and injuring nine others. The company has been ordered to suspend production with no resumption schedule announced.

Nujiang Dingsheng, located in Lushui County of China's Yunnan province, is mainly engaged in silicon metal production, and sales of hardware and construction materials.

Production at other silicon metal producers in Lushui County was little affected, so silicon metal supply is unlikely to fall noticeably. However, as local government put much weight on the accident, stricter security inspections will be launched on local producers.
