Electric bike battery prices have fallen below costs of battery producers, pushing operating rate at one leading producer to just 50%. However, SMM still sees further declines in battery prices.

Jan.1-Sept.9 (CNY/T)(SMM) – Electric bike battery prices have fallen below costs of battery producers, pushing operating rate at one leading producer to just 50%. However, SMM still sees further declines in battery prices.

Electric bike battery producers have been mired in price war this year, leaving battery prices depressed. Prices for electric bike batteries failed to rise sharply even when lead prices surged in late July, but followed lead prices down in August and September, leaving losses for battery makers.

As anticipation for massive growth-fanning measures from Chinese government fell through, lackluster demand and continuous falls in lead prices are expected to add to a drag on electric bike battery prices.
