






MOSCOW (Scrap Monster): According to the recent data published by the World Steel Association (World Steel), the crude steel production by Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) increased by 1.9% during the month of May year-on-year.
The total crude steel production by Byelorussia was down marginally by 0.8% during May this year to 230,000 tonnes from 232,000 tonnes in May 2013. Kazakhstan produced 310,000 tonnes of crude steel, higher by 12.6% when compared to 275,000 tonnes production achieved during May 2013. Moldova recorded 45,000 tonnes steel output during the month. The total crude steel production by Russia were up 0.6% from 6.014 Million tonnes in May 2013 to 6.053 Million tonnes this May.
There was a marked improvement in Ukraine's crude steel output in May. Ukraine's total crude steel output went higher by 2.2% to 2.818 Million tonnes in May 2014 when compared to the output of 2.756 Million tonnes during May last year. However, Uzbekistan's crude steel output dropped slightly by 0.2% during the month of May this year.
The following table provides cumulative crude steel output for the first five months in 2014 in comparison with those during same period in 2013.
