Brazil's Pig Iron Exports Tumbled in May '14, Says Data

According to statistics, the pig iron exports by Brazil continued to drop during the month of May this year.

SAO PAULO (Scrap Monster): According to statistics, the pig iron exports by Brazil continued to drop during the month of May this year.

Brazil's pig iron exports totaled 83,000 during May '14. The total exports were down 16.8% when compared with the exports during May last year. The exports fell 67.5% from the previous month. The country's pig iron exports had totaled 256,000 tons during the month of April this year.

The pig iron exports by the country during the initial five months of the current year totaled 861,000 tons. The combined five-month export figure was down 28.3% when compared with the exports during the corresponding five-month period in 2013.

The largest importer of Brazilian pig iron during the period from January to May this year was the US. The US imported 618,000 tons of Brazilian pig iron, accounting for more than 70% of the total pig iron exports by the country during the period. The second largest export destination of Brazilian pig iron was Mexico. The country's total pig iron exports to Mexico amounted to 62,000 tons. The Mexican imports of Brazilian pig iron plunged by 50.2% over the previous year. In third place was Taiwan with total imports of 58,000 tons, dropping by nearly 62% over the previous year.
