China's refined tin imports plunged during Apr '14: ITRI

According to latest data, the Refined Tin imports by China plunged during the month of April this year.

BEIJING (Scrap Monster): According to latest data, the Refined Tin imports by China plunged during the month of April this year. The country’s Tin imports totaled 405 tonnes in April. The refined tin imports by the country had recovered during the month of March after falling to seven-month lows in February this year.

The country’s imports of refined Tin during April this year were down nearly 66% from those during the same month a year before. Also, the April ’14 imports dropped by nearly 55% when compared with the imports during the previous month.

The total imports of refined tin by China during the initial four months of the year totaled 2,235 tonnes,65% lower when compared with the corresponding four-month period in 2013.

The imports of tin concentrate too witnessed sharp fall during the month of April. The Tin concentrate imports totaled 11,476 tonnes in April. The imports surged 263% over same month the previous year but dropped 30% over the previous month. The primary exporter of tin concentrates to China was Myanmar. The imports from Myanmar totaled 10,974 tonnes in April, accounting for almost 96% of imports.

The total tin concentrate imports during the first four months in 2014 were up 39% year-on-year to 49,759 tonnes.

Meanwhile, the country’s non-ingot tin exports climbed higher by 29% over the previous month to touch 587 tonnes. The cumulative exports during the Jan-Apr period totaled nearly 2,000 tonnes.
