US Raw Steel Production Declines 2.8% Y/y to 1,785,000 Net Tons

United States domestic raw steel production dropped by 2.8% year-on-year to 1,785,000 net tons in the week ended April 12th this year while the capability utilization rate was 74.2 percent.

NEW YORK (Scrap Register): United States domestic raw steel production dropped by 2.8% year-on-year to 1,785,000 net tons in the week ended April 12th this year while the capability utilization rate was 74.2 percent, as per the latest figures released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).

According to AISI, production was 1,837,000 net tons in the week ending April 12, 2013, while the capability utilization then was 76.7 percent.

Production for the week ended April 12, 2014 is up 1.3 percent from the previous week ended April 5, 2014 when production was 1,762,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 73.3 percent.

Adjusted year-to-date production through April 12, 2014 was 26,631,net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 76.1 percent. That is a 0.8 percent decrease from the 26,850 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 76.9 percent.

Broken down by districts, here's production for the week ending April 12, 2014 in thousands of net tons: North East: 224; Great Lakes: 569; Midwest: 233; Southern: 671 and Western: 88 for a total of 1,785.
