TOKYO (Scrap Monster) : According to the most latest statistics released by the Japanese Ministry of Finance, the country’s scrap exports declined sharply in September over the previous month. The exports witnessed a similar fall when compared with the same month last year too.
The country’s total scrap exports during the month of September amounted to 509,000 tons. The scrap exports by the country during the month fell 20.9% over the month. When compared with the exports during September 2012, the exports this year have declined by 19.2%.
During September, Korea was the main importer of scrap from Japan. Korea imported 252,000 tons of scrap from Japan, accounting for nearly 50% of the total scrap exports by Japan. The Japanese scrap exports to Korea were down by 39.1% year-on-year. Japan exported 190,000 tons of scrap to China. The country’s scrap exports to China were higher by 3.3% in September. The total scrap exports by Japan to Vietnam during the month soared 77.5% year-on-year to reach 23,000 tons.
During the initial nine months of the year, the country exported 6.515 million tons of scrap. The Japanese scrap exports during the period from January to September this year showed an improvement of 5.5% when compared with the exports during similar nine-month period in 2012.
