Yunnan Tin Co. announced to spend 3.5 billion yuan ($566 million) to relocate its smelting facility in Gejiu city in accord with government’s environmental policies.

SHANGHAI, Jul. 9 (SMM) - Yunnan Tin Co. announced to spend 3.5 billion yuan ($566 million) to relocate its smelting facility in Gejiu city in accord with government’s environmental policies.

The world’s largest tin producer would move the smelting facility to Mengzi Economic Development Zone in Yunnan province and upgrade it to a 70,000-tpy plant, the company told Shanghai Stock Exchange today, adding the project would take 3-5 years to complete.

Tin smelting companies situated within one kilometer of residential areas were ordered to relocate by entry requirements for tungsten, tin and antimony industries issued by China’s National Development & Reform Commission in 2006, it said.
