Trading volumes at Chinese ports remained thin, with offers for selected manganese ore showing signs of decline.

SHANGHAI, Mar. 12 (SMM) --

Domestic market:

Trading volumes at Chinese ports remained thin, with offers for selected manganese ore showing signs of decline. Prices for high-silicon manganese ore (Mn36%, Si20%) have fallen back to USD 47/mtu after jumping to USD 49/mtu. Suppliers of such manganese ore still held quotations relatively firm, though, leaving little flexibility in pricing. Widening price spread between southern and northern ports have stimulated some producers and traders to ship goods to northern ports for sale.

Transactions:

Inquiries at ports were sparse as most manganese alloy producers showed low-acceptance towards existing high prices. Continuously rising CIF prices for imported manganese ore also forced manganese alloy producers to buy spot manganese ore instead.

Falling rebar prices and growing crude steel output will force steel mills to push for even lower manganese alloy prices.
