SMM believes that manganese alloy industry will under go consolidation, and shall continue to heavily depend on imported manganese ore.

SHANGHAI, Feb. 28 (SMM) -- Overseas market: ARM Board of Directors revealed on Tuesday that the company has approved the Rand 5.8 billion project in Black Rock, which will increase manganese ore output by 3-4 million mt in the following four years. The company reported good performance due to recovery in iron ore and manganese ore market. The company’s revenue reduced by 1/3 in 1H 2012 due to iron ore price decline and operation cost hike.

Domestic market: Offers of imported manganese ore were flat, and transactions were muted. Bidding prices for manganese ore offered by manganese alloy producers fell. Hebei Iron & Steel Group planned to offer prices at RMB 7,250/mt, down RMB 50/mt from a day earlier, exerting downward pressure on alloy prices. However, overseas manganese ore suppliers still have dominate power on pricing for manganese ore.

Transaction: Transactions of manganese ore from South Africa increased at RMB 42.5/mtu in north ports, while were limited for manganese ore from other origins.

SMM believes that manganese alloy industry will under go consolidation, and shall continue to heavily depend on imported manganese ore.
