China Manganese Ore Market (2012-10-22)

Inquiries were brisk but supply of manganese ore was limited.
SHANGHAI, Oct. 22 (SMM) -- Inquiries were brisk but supply of goods was limited. According to SMM sources, offers of Australia manganese ore (Mn 48%) were between RMB 38-39/mtu. Although spot offers and long-term contract offers of such grade manganese ore increased, most traders were cautiously optimistic towards market outlook.
It remains unknown when will the Australia lump and granule arrive at north China ports, so traded prices of its substitute, Zambia manganese ore (Mn 50%), began to increase. BHP restricted supply in order to push up manganese ore prices higher, which seemed to take effect. However, downstream SiMn alloy producers began to find substitutes in order to east supply shortage. In south China ports, there was almost no supply of Australia manganese ore.
