BHP quoted offers flat and demand from downstream alloy producers did not improve, fueling pessimistic sentiment in the market.

SHANGHAI, Oct.11 (SMM) – Inquiries for imported manganese ore were quiet and transactions were lackluster. Small and medium traders at south and north ports kept inventories low and adopted a wait-and-see attitude. BHP quoted offers flat and demand from downstream alloy producers did not improve, fueling pessimistic sentiment in the market.

Supply of imported manganese ore (Australia, lump, Mn 48%), ore (Australia, granule, Mn 45%) and ore (Brazil, lump Mn 44-45%) reduced significantly. Inquires for such grade manganese were brisk, but traders suffered losses to move them at current low prices. Supply of mixed manganese carbonate ore (South Africa, Mn 38%) were relatively ample, but labor strike added uncertainties of supply in the future. Supply of manganese ore (Australia, lump, Mn 48%), ore (Australia, granule, Mn 45%) were in shortage and offers of these ores were as high as RMB 38/mtu. However, transactions were muted based on SMM sources.
