As silicon metal prices fell rapidly in Yunnan Province in mid-to-late June, silicon metal producers neared production losses.

SHANGHAI, Jul. 9 (SMM) – As silicon metal prices fell rapidly in Yunnan Province in mid-to-late June, silicon metal producers neared production losses. In this context, silicon metal producers in Yunnan's Baoshan City and Dehong Prefecture jointly reported this issue to the local governments and hoped it could again cut electricity prices so as to alleviate production pressures.

According to SMM sources, Baoshan municipal government early July met local silicon metal producers' requirements to slash electricity prices during the high-water period, down by around 0.02/kwh. Electricity prices offered by large power grids were lowered to RMB 0.326-0.328/kwh from RMB 0.346/kwh. However, the Dehong prefectural government failed to cut electricity prices and will likely release the result at the end of July.
