Chinese Selenium Prices in A Stalemate

SHANGHAI, Apr. 9 (SMM) – On Monday, prices for selenium dioxide in domestic markets were mainly between RMB 700-710/kg, and mainstream offers for selenium powder remained stable between RMB 1,050-1,080/kg.

According to SMM sources, demand for selenium dioxide was hard to show improvements with EMM market remaining sluggish. However, selenium powder prices on LME stayed firm and Chinese selenium powder prices were also steady owing to slightly tight supply. In China’s domestic markets, costs for selenium dioxide production maintained high, while selenium dioxide supply did not show remarkable surplus, supporting selenium dioxide prices to hover in the RMB 700-710/kg range. SMM expects that domestic selenium dioxide prices may fall slightly due to weaker demand from EMM producers if EMM market dampens further.
