Rain Hits Copper-Producing Far North Chile; Collahuasi Operating

Far northern Chile, home to mines including Anglo American Plc (AAL) and Xstrata Plc (XTA)'s Collahuasi, was hit by rain, snow and electrical storms.

Jan. 5 (Bloomberg) --Far northern Chile, home to mines including Anglo American Plc (AAL) and Xstrata Plc (XTA)'s Collahuasi, was hit by rain, snow and electrical storms, the government's emergency service reported on its website today.

Collahuasi, the world's third-biggest copper mine, continues to operate, spokeswoman Bernardita Fernandez said in an e-mailed response.

Teck Resources Ltd. (TCK/B), which operates the Quebrada Blanca copper mine, and BHP Billiton Ltd. (BHP), which owns Cerro Colorado, didn't immediately respond to e-mailed requests for comment.
