SHANGHAI, Aug. 9 (SMM) – A rapid drop in brass imports was seen over the past week, as China’s domestic purchasing interest fell markedly. Overseas suppliers were reluctant to sell at low prices given current tight brass supply in foreign markets, while domestic brass inventories were also in decline due to weakened purchasing interest from downstream producers, bringing into a stalemate between supply and demand. The stalemate is expected to become more obvious given current seasonal low demand period. However, since brass generally comes into China’s domestic markets due to bullish bets, many enterprises will increased brass imports again when copper prices narrow their recent declines.
