Rusal Taps Loan to Build Aluminum Smelter in Siberia

Russian aluminum giant Rusal has secured a RUB 40bn (approx. USD 1.4bn) loan from Vnesheconombank to finish the construction of the Taishet aluminum smelter in the Irkutsk Region

Moscow, Aug 04, 2011 (RosBusinessConsulting via COMTEX) -- Russian aluminum giant Rusal has secured a RUB 40bn (approx. USD 1.4bn) loan from Vnesheconombank to finish the construction of the Taishet aluminum smelter in the Irkutsk Region, a spokesperson for Rusal said. According to reports in May, Rusal could resume construction before the end of August, if it had obtained the loan before the end of June. The smelter with an annual capacity of 750,000 tons of aluminum could be completed in 2016. Construction of the smelter was suspended due to the economic downturn.
