






SHANGHAI, Jul. 28 (SMM)--According to data, refined zinc imports in June were 25.3 kt, up 0.86%. Accumulated imports from January through June were 167.5 kt, up 15.8% YoY.
Most refined zinc imports were from Australia, with 6,514 mt, while South Korea came in second, with 4,638 mt. Australia and South Korea are also the largest contributors of zinc alloy imports, with imports 7,319 mt and 4,601 mt in June.
Imports from North Korea flowed to China during 2011. Refined zinc imports from North Korea were 2,587 mt in June, and accumulated imports from January through June were 17,605 mt, up 155.18% YoY. According to SMM sources, imports from North Korea were mainly #2 zinc ingot, which are generally used in domestic battery producers.
Zinc output in Japan fell sharply due to the earthquake, so exports also decreased. Refined zinc imports from Japan in June were 527 mt, down 79.07% YoY. Accumulated imports from January through June were 4,848 mt, down 61.41% YoY.
