Zinc Output of Hindustan Zinc Limited Poses a 25% Increase

SHANGHAI, (SMM)--Hindustan Zinc Limited’s lead and zinc mining and smelting capacity as well as the output has been growing rapidly. The company unveiled recently that its output of refined zinc increased by 25.3% YoY from 140,661 mt to 176,239 mt by 3Q, ending September, mainly from Rajasthan smelter, whose capacity is 210,000 mt/yr. The smelter produced 39,000 mt of refined zinc in the third quarter.

The company’s output of zinc concentrate also hit a quarter-high at 205,000 mt in 3Q, mainly from the increased capacity of Rampura Agucha mine and recycling rate. According to Vedanta Resources, the share holding company of Hindustan Zinc Limited, Sindesar Khurd mine, with a capacity of 1.5 million mt/yr, will be put into production by the year-end. The mining capacity of the company will further increase by then.

The refined lead output of Hindustan Zinc Limited was 16,167/mt in the 3Q, compared with 13,510/mt in the same period last year. Its refined lead smelter with the capacity of 100,000 mt/yr in Dariba, was just put into production in 3Q, with silver output of 43,953 kg in 3Q, up 9% on the yearly basis. The increased silver output mainly resulted from a higher silver content in the ores and the increasing production rate.
