SHANGHAI, Aug. 4 (SMM) -- China's domestic selenium dioxide prices have slipped from RMB 440/kg to current RMB 430/kg, and mainstream traded prices of selenium dioxide were between RMB 425-430/kg. Downstream EMM market was sluggish, and the low operating rates at EMM producers led to sluggish purchases for selenium dioxide.

China's selenium power market was relatively quiet. Offers of major brand selenium powder were between RMB 610-630/kg. Although demand for selenium powder was weak, overseas offers were firm. According to SMM sources, supply of selenium powder was slightly tight in the international market due to reduced output. Overseas selenium powder suppliers tried to lift offers, leading to higher costs and risks for Chinese importers.

However, SMM believes that the weak demand will make selenium powder and selenium dioxide prices face downward pressure, despite that import costs are high.
