Alcoa Raises Price on Machined Cast Plate Product

NEW YORK, Apr. 28 -- Alcoa Inc (AA.N: Quote) said on Tuesday its North American Rolled Products division alerted customers to a price increase of 10 cents per lb on its MIC 6(c) precision machined cast plate product.

Depending on gauge, the price increase is at least 15 percent, said Alcoa spokesman Kevin Lowery.

Cast plate is primarily used in tooling applications.

The price increase will become effective on all new orders placed on or after April 27, 2010, and for shipments after May 30, 2010, regardless of order entry date.

All existing orders and firm agreements confirmed before April 27 will be honored, Alcoa said in a note to customers.

Alcoa Corp will suspend aluminium production at its Spanish plant (the second largest aluminium plant in Europe) for two years in response to the recent soaring energy prices in Europe. Aluminium Dunkerque Industries France, the largest aluminium smelter in Europe, announced a production cut earlier in December as energy costs hit a record high in the previous week and aggravated the financial pressure on heavy industries.
