SHANGHAI, Mar. 8 (SMM) -- According to Hunan Nonferrous Geological Prospecting Bureau, Baoshan's Lead-Zinc-Silver Mine, previously scheduled for closure, has made a major discovery using deep exploration techniques. New reserves, including 1.3 million mt of lead and zinc, and 1,104 mt of silver, are now believed to be available in the Baoshan Mine.
The Hunan Nonferrous Geological Prospecting Bureau has undertaken a number of exploration projects in crisis mines. Taking advantage of technology and equipment, and based on existing geological prospecting data, the bureau has carried out additional exploration work in old mines, helping many, including Xikuangshan, Shuikoushan, Xianghualing, and Xiangxi Gold Mine, avoid bankruptcy. To date, the bureau has found new reserves at Xianrenyan's gold-silver-lead-zinc mine, Hehuaping's tin mine, Changchong's tin-lead-zinc mine, Chiping's lead-zinc mine, and many others. Sources report the Hunan Nonferrous Geological Prospecting Bureau has found a total of 2.136 million mt of new lead and zinc reserves in the past few years.
