SHANGHAI, Feb. 4 (SMM) -- Recently, many major domestic copper producers have announced their major projects scheduled to be built in 2010, such as Dongying Fangyuan Non-ferrous Metals Company's 200 kt/yr copper smelting project, Zijin Mining Group's 200 kt/yr copper project, and 2nd phase of Baiyin Non-Ferrous Metals Company's 200 kt/yr copper smelting technical innovation project.
Affected by global economic recession, China experienced slowing growth pace of copper smelting capacity in 2009. However, China's copper smelting industry will enter its rapid expansion period in 2010. According to SMM data, a total number of 1.94 million mt of copper smelting capacity will be under construction and put on online in 2010-2011. By the end of 2011, China's copper capacity will exceed 7 million mt.
