BEIJING, Nov. 17 -- The Aluminum Corp. of China (Chinalco), the country's top aluminum producer, is producing advanced-quality aluminum alloy for China's large commercial passenger jet project, according to Lv Youqing, Chinalco's vice general manager.

    Chinalco holds a 5.26 percent stake in the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China with an investment of 1 billion yuan. In 2008 the latter was established with state approval to develop the country's first domestic brand large commercial passenger jet.

    "Chinalco has long been a major supplier of aluminum products for China's aerospace industry," said Lv.

    The company attaches great importance to China's passenger jet project, and has set up a task force headed by Chinalco's general manager to write comprehensive plans for the scientific research and production of aluminum alloy for the jets.

    Chinalco's subsidiary Southwest Aluminum Company has provided aluminum alloy products of over 100 different specifications for the jets, amassing to a total weight of 700 tonnes.

    "We have invested 5 billion yuan to develop large commercial passenger jet technology so far," Lv said. "Chinalco is absolutely capable contributing 30-percent of the aluminum alloy used in China's first-flight of domestically produced jets."Chinalco is the parent company of Shanghai, Hong Kong and New York listed Chalco.
