Customs: China's tin ore imports pulled back MoM in November, with a decreasing reliance on imports from Myanmar

According to data from the General Administration of Customs of China, China's imports of tin ores and concentrates in November 2024 were 12,136.428 mt (equivalent to 5,604.251 mt in metal content), down 56.46% YoY and 19.17% MoM. Imports from Myanmar in November were 3,080.889 mt (equivalent to 851.422 mt in metal content), down 85.03% YoY and 50.03% MoM. Excluding Myanmar, the total imports from other countries in November were 9,055.539 mt (equivalent to 4,752.83 mt in metal content), up 24.07% YoY and 2.33% MoM.

From January to November 2024, China's cumulative imports of tin ores and concentrates were approximately 150,800 mt (equivalent to 53,500 mt in metal content), down 35.04% YoY. Among these, imports from Myanmar were approximately 75,300 mt, accounting for 49.91% of the total, down 55.04% YoY. As of November, cumulative imports from other countries excluding Myanmar were approximately 75,500 mt, accounting for 50.08% of the total, up 16.71% YoY. This indicates that after the ban on mining in Myanmar, China's reliance on tin ore imports from Myanmar has been decreasing, while the share of imports from other countries, especially overseas, has been increasing due to deeper exploration.
