As the Trump administration threatened to impose further tariffs to stimulate the US manufacturing sector, TSMC has commenced construction of its third wafer fab in Arizona, intensifying its expansion efforts in the US. On the same day that US Secretary of Commerce Lutnick visited TSMC's site, TSMC announced its third-phase expansion plan in the US. TSMC, a major chip manufacturer for Apple and Nvidia, is also a cornerstone of the US government's efforts to attract manufacturing back to the country. In March this year, TSMC Chairman and CEO C.C. Wei jointly announced with Trump at the White House a plan to invest an additional US$100 billion in US factories.
