Codelco to Supply Copper Concentrates to World's Largest Smelter Invested by Adani Group

According to SMM, Codelco, the world's largest copper producer and a state-owned enterprise in Chile, announced that it will supply copper concentrates to a $1.2 billion smelter invested by India's Adani Group. This smelter is the world's largest copper smelter. Officially named Kutch Copper and located in Gujarat, the smelter's executives previously stated that it would source concentrates from Chile and other countries. The smelter began operations a year ago and last month reached an agreement with a joint venture producing wires and cables. Since the closure of Vedanta's Sterlite copper smelter in 2018, India's copper imports have surged. The Sterlite copper smelter had a production capacity of approximately 400,000 mt.
