Sinopec Petroleum Machinery Invests 100 Million Yuan, Wuhan Jiangxia Wulijie CNG Mother Station to Be Transformed Into an Integrated Hydrogen Production and Refueling Station

On February 14, 2025, Wulijie in Jiangxia District, Wuhan City, Hubei Province, welcomed the approval of an important energy transition project—the transformation of a CNG mother station into an integrated hydrogen production and refueling station. This project, funded by Sinopec Oilfield Equipment Corporation with an investment of 100 million yuan, marks a solid step forward in upgrading the region's energy structure.

The core of this transformation is the comprehensive upgrade of the existing Wulijie compressed natural gas refueling station into a modern energy station integrating hydrogen production and refueling functions. To achieve this goal, the project will introduce two advanced water electrolysis hydrogen production units, along with four hydrogen compressors, four hydrogen dispensers, and two hydrogen filling columns, ensuring efficient hydrogen production and safe refueling. This series of hardware configurations not only upgrades the original compressed natural gas business to hydrogen production and supply but also lays a solid foundation for the rapid development of the hydrogen energy industry.

Notably, this integrated hydrogen production and refueling station is not only a key new energy project in Wuhan but also an important component of the new energy demonstration project in the Chongqing region. Leveraging the strategic advantages of the New Western Land-Sea Corridor, the project aims to establish an entire industry chain system encompassing hydrogen production, storage, transportation, and application, striving to create a closed-loop ecosystem for the hydrogen energy industry.

To ensure the smooth progress and efficient operation of the project, an innovative cooperation model of "government + platform + enterprise" has been adopted. The government provides policy support and guidance, the platform is responsible for resource integration and coordination, and enterprises leverage their professional expertise and innovative capabilities. The three parties work together to promote the rapid development of the hydrogen energy industry. According to preliminary estimates, after the project is put into operation, it is expected to produce several thousand mt of hydrogen annually, meeting the growing hydrogen energy demand in surrounding areas and effectively promoting the coordinated development of upstream and downstream industries.

In addition, the project will focus on creating a hydrogen energy development framework that integrates a "green channel logistics system + hydrogen supply system + hydrogen industry innovation system." By optimizing the logistics network, it ensures the safe and efficient transportation of hydrogen; by improving the hydrogen supply system, it enhances the stability and reliability of hydrogen supply; and by strengthening hydrogen industry innovation, it drives continuous technological progress and industrial upgrading in the hydrogen energy sector. The implementation of these measures will inject new vitality and momentum into the development of the hydrogen energy industry in Wuhan and the entire Hubei Province.
