China Urges US to Cancel Section 301 Tariffs, Citing WTO Ruling and Global Interests

At the recent routine press conference of the Ministry of Commerce, some media asked about the situation where the Office of the United States Trade Representative proposed to raise the tariff rates under Section 301 on five types of products, including specific tungsten products, silicon wafers, and polysilicon, and planned to solicit public opinions on this significant tariff increase measure starting from this week.

In response, He Yongqian, the spokesman of the Ministry of Commerce, stated that China has always opposed the US's imposition of Section 301 tariffs and has made solemn representations on multiple occasions. He pointed out that the World Trade Organization has ruled that Section 301 tariffs violate relevant rules, and the recent actions of the US are moving further and further away in the wrong direction.

He Yongqian further called on the US to respond objectively and rationally to the voices from all sectors, emphasizing that it should proceed from safeguarding the security of the global industrial chain and the fundamental interests of consumers and producers in both China and the US, and cancel all tariffs imposed on China as soon as possible to create a healthy and predictable environment for bilateral economic and trade cooperation.
