China Urges US to Reverse Section 301 Tariffs, Calling for Stable Trade Environment

At the regular press conference of the Ministry of Commerce, a media outlet asked about the recent proposal by the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) to raise the tariff rates under Section 301 for five product categories, including certain tungsten products, silicon wafers, and polysilicon, and its plan to seek public comment. In response, He Yongqian, the spokesman for the Ministry of Commerce, stated that China has consistently opposed the US's imposition of Section 301 tariffs and has made solemn representations on multiple occasions. He pointed out that the World Trade Organization (WTO) has long ruled that Section 301 tariffs violate relevant rules, and the recent moves by the US are on the wrong path.

He Yongqian further called on the US to respond to the calls from all sectors with an objective and rational attitude, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding the security of the global industrial chain and the fundamental interests of consumers and producers in both China and the US. He expressed his hope that the US would rescind all tariffs imposed on China as soon as possible, creating a healthy and predictable environment for bilateral economic and trade cooperation.
