Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions won a $18.5 million open-pit mining equipment order from Newcrest Mining (TSX:NCM;ASX:NSM), which will optimize the reliability and productivity of the Red Chris copper and gold mine in British Columbia.

Newcrest has ordered two Sandvik Leopard DI650i and two Sandvik DR412i, for Red Chris use. The mine recently published a pre-feasibility study showing its potential to become a world-class underground massive cave mine. Sandvik will also provide on-site service support and vendor management inventory to support on-site training and maintenance processes.

The order, which includes equipment, aftermarket and rock drilling tools, was booked in the third quarter of 2021. The delivery of the equipment is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2021.

Peter Corcoran, Vice President of Sandvik Canada, said, "We are pleased to work with Red Chris Mine in Golden Triangle, Canada, and we are proud to be able to contribute to their safety and productivity goals through our innovative, automation-ready drilling rig and service solutions."

Leopard DI650i is a diesel-powered, independent crawler intelligent down-the-hole drilling rig. It is specially designed for large-capacity production drilling applications in open-pit mining and large quarry applications. The Sandvik DR412i blasting drill is designed to provide reliable penetration and return on investment for rotary and DTH applications. DR412i supports AutoMine, to provide functions that meet the needs of on-board and offline automation.
