Rumor Says Full Closures of Silicon Metal Plants, Is It True? SMM Reports

SHANGHAI, Aug. 23 (SMM) – Recently, it rumors that silicon metal plants in Sichuan, Xinjiang and Qinghai close down for environmental protection checks.

Silicon Price Keeps Rising, and the growth to Slow down amid Falling Purchases, SMM Forecasts

SMM learns that the round of inspections targets mainly Sichuan and Xinjiang. According to SMM sources, some silicon metal producers in Sichuan have cut and suspended production for environmental factor, and in Xinjiang, only one plant has halted production, and another one produces intermittently, and some large producers reduce operation rates. In Qinghai, producers only cut operation rates, not full-scale suspension. 

There is low chance to see large-scale production cuts in the three regions in the future, and at present, overall production is stable, SMM foresees.

Silicon metal price is gaining rising power, and investors are advised to take cautious attitude on speculation over rumors.
