According to the latest release from the General Administration of Customs, in June 2024, China's imports of manganese ore were 2.14 million mt, down 12.30% MoM and 15% YoY. H1 imports totalled 14.02 million mt, down 8.84% YoY.
The imports of manganese ore in June slightly decreased, with no significant fluctuations compared to May. Among them, the top five manganese ore import sources were: South Africa (1,218,498 mt), Ghana (607,658 mt), Gabon (152,390 mt), Myanmar (71,647 mt), and Australia (49,073 mt), totalling 2,321,227.126 mt, accounting for 95.1% of the total.
The imports from South Africa increased, with stable demand from downstream alloy plants. Due to port impacts, the saleable volume of Australian manganese ore continued to decline, and it is expected to resume normal levels by 2025. However, due to adjustments in ports, manganese ore inventory at alloy plants and furnace charge ratios, current production has not been significantly restricted.
