SHANGHAI, Aug 25 (SMM) - According to customs data, China's silicon metal exports stood at 63,000 mt in July, down 9% month on month, but up 40% year on year. Export totalled 466,000 mt from January to July, up 41% YoY.
Export volume has been holding at high levels for months mainly due to overseas demand recovery from the pandemic. The pandemic factor aside, the export volume this year increased slightly compared with 2019 due to the gradual exit of overseas silicon metal capacity and significant price advantage of Chinese silicon metal over products in Europe.
SMM expects China's silicon metal export volume to remain at a high level of more than 60,000 mt in August, but slightly lower than in July due to the summer break in Japan and Europe.
