SMM9: thanks to the successful commissioning of the Bisie tin mine in Congo in 2019, Alphamin Resources is expected to have a bumper harvest in 2020. Alphamin began construction of the Bisie mine in 2017, and once it reaches steady production, it will produce an average of 9,642 tons of tin per year, containing 60 per cent concentrate.
Bisie is expected to produce 152,300 tons of premium tin over its 12-year service life. The project has a payback period of less than two years, and Alphamin estimates it will be the lowest-cost 1/4 of all tin producers.
Initially, Alphamin plans to mine the Mpama North orebody, then use the generated revenue to start operations in Mpama South, expand the depth of Mpama North, and eventually seek to further explore other tin resources within its permission.
The company's ability to export concentrate processed during commissioning to Gerald Metals, its off-take partner in Kampala, is a positive sign.
