[SMM Tin Futures Review: The most-traded SHFE tin contract continues to consolidate, with the spot market mainly seeing just-in-time procurement of small lots.]

Tin Daily Report on August 24, 2026

The tin market in China and overseas consolidated today. The most-traded SHFE tin contract opened at 427,800 yuan/mt. In early trade, market sentiment was affected by the situation in the Middle East, and the tin market followed the broader market with a weaker center, then rebounded in the afternoon and consolidated around 427,000. At 15:00, it closed at 427,110 yuan/mt, down 0.14% from the previous trading day. On the LME, three-month tin on the London Metal Exchange was last at $55,895/mt, down 0.31%.

On the macro front:

(1) Trump publicly stated that solving the US' $40 trillion debt problem must rely on economic growth, and clearly clarified that he did not instruct Bessent to intervene in the bond market.

(2) The Iranian Parliamentary Committee approved a bill to charge service fees to ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz (the bill is still subject to a full vote); meanwhile, according to Iranian media, Iran has decided to allow some Iraqi oil tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. The geopolitical tug-of-war continues, but overall it shows a coexistence of localized pressure and targeted clearance.

On the spot front, market trading was mediocre today. Against the backdrop of futures prices consolidating at highs, downstream and end-user enterprises showed low purchasing sentiment, with market transactions mainly comprising a small portion of essential needs orders, lacking substantial buying support.

In summary, current market sentiment remains within the existing price range, with futures demonstrating clear stagnant consolidation. On one hand, the relatively mediocre spot trading performance has partially capped price upside potential; on the other hand, from the current market tug-of-war perspective, the mainstream sentiment leans more toward price stabilization, with funds in a stalemate at key points. The most-traded SHFE tin contract is expected to continue consolidating in the near term.
