EDM Resources Secures Amended Industrial Approval for Scotia Zinc Mine, Targets 2027 Restart
EDM Resources announced on July 21 that it has received an amended industrial approval from Nova Scotia’s Department of Environment and Climate Change for the planned restart of the Scotia Mine. The approval covers revisions to the mine plan, processing facilities, site layout, waste-rock and tailings management systems, and related environmental measures, aligning the project with the company’s updated pre-feasibility study. The Scotia Mine is targeting a restart in 2027 following the completion of remaining permitting, financing and construction activities. Once operational, it is expected to become Nova Scotia’s only primary zinc producer and create approximately 150 direct jobs. However, the restart remains subject to Fisheries Act Authorisation. EDM Resources is also updating the mineral resource estimate, completing the PFS, advancing financing initiatives and holding discussions with potential zinc concentrate offtake partners.

Eagle Mountain Mining has signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding with Japan’s Nittetsu Mining to jointly identify and assess new mineral projects, building on their existing partnership at the Oracle Ridge project in Arizona. The cooperation will primarily target copper, gold, lead, lithium, nickel, silver and zinc opportunities in Australia and North America. The companies will consider projects ranging from early-stage exploration to advanced exploration, pre-development and producing assets. The MoU has an initial term of 24 months, is non-exclusive and does not require either party to complete a transaction. The partnership is intended to combine Eagle Mountain’s project development capabilities with Nittetsu Mining’s technical expertise and potential funding capacity to expand their pipeline of lead, zinc and other strategic mineral assets.
