SHANGHAI, Jun 1 (SMM) – SMM recently conducted a survey of Chinese transport infrastructure companies with regard to their operations in May.

1. A medium-sized infrastructure company in south China: It is difficult to get a new project now. We failed to win the bid. There will be opportunities in the future. The progress of the projects under construction is normal, and the operating workers are relatively stable. The weather will get hot. We will be affected by the rain, but as long as it is not heavy rain, we will catch up with the progress. Steel consumption has not changed much this month, and prices may fall further.

2. A large-scale infrastructure enterprise in east China: Production is normal, and procurement remains stable. We did not increase procurement in large volumes. The price changes had little impact. There are no new projects yet, and it is estimated that there will be new projects in the second half of the year. The situation is not very good, and the funding is relatively tight, but compared with housing construction companies, our operation is acceptable. There are no projects to be completed in the near near. There will be starts and completions in the second half of the year, and there will be little change in personnel.

3. A medium-sized infrastructure enterprise in east China: Now that the new project has started gradually, the purchase volume in the early stage will increase. The price dropped, but we will not build stock in large volumes. The progress of the project is normal, and there will be fewer new projects in the near term. We bid for projects, but it will take time for the project to be finalised. The cash flows are acceptable. The number of personnel has increased, and we will need more people in the near term.

4. A large infrastructure company in central China: There were no new projects this month, and we were still working on previous projects. The procurement and labour force have not changed. We purchased on demand and do not keep inventory. It is not sure whether there will be new projects in the next three months, but it should be basically the same as now. The construction speed is also normal. The rain in south China basically has no impact on our operation as our projects are mainly in north China.

5. A medium-sized infrastructure enterprise in north China: The construction progress is normal. There were no new projects this month, and some projects have already been completed, so the procurement decreased and the manpower has also been reduced. We are currently bidding, but there is no result yet. There will not be any new projects in three months.
