TAIPEI (Scrap Register): Prices for Taiwanese containerized HMS # 1&2 80:20 imports climbed by $6 a ton to $251 a ton during the week ended February 17, as per the latest figures from The Steel Index.

The Taiwanese number increased $6 a ton from last Friday to $251 a ton. Most overseas suppliers of ISRI grade scrap were unwilling to make any offers to Taiwanese mills as they found that the bidding prices from mills were too low for them to consider.

A few deals were known to have concluded, but Taiwanese mills have been feeling the pressure of the international scrap market as prices continue to rise, while the domestic demand for finished long products remains weak.

Although domestic scrap supplies are still stable, most mills were only running at around half of their utilization due to weak local demand.
