China Renews Blue Alert for Rainstorms May 5-6

The National Meteorological Centre (NMC) continued to issue a blue alert for rainstorms at 10:00 on May 5. The NMC predicts that from 14:00 on May 5 to 14:00 on May 6, there will be heavy rains in eastern Guizhou, central Hunan, central Jiangxi, southwestern Zhejiang, northwestern Fujian, northeastern Sichuan, most part of Chongqing, western Hubei, southeastern and northern Shaanxi,and central Shanxi.

There will be heavy rainstorms (100-120 mm) in western Hunan and central Jiangxi. Some of the above-mentioned areas are accompanied by short-term heavy rainfall (the maximum hourly rainfall is 20-50 mm, and that in some regions can exceed 60 mm). There will be strong convective weather such as thunderstorms and strong winds in some areas.

SMM Morning Summary: Overnight, LME copper opened at $14,127/mt, dipped to a low of $14,102.5/mt in early trading, then its price center moved straight up to touch $14,292.5/mt, before drifting lower to close at $14,236.5/mt, up 0.31%. Trading volume reached 22,700 lots, and open interest stood at 268,600 lots, an increase of 3,229 lots from the previous trading day, driven by bullish positioning. Overnight, the most-traded SHFE copper 2610 contract opened at 108,500 yuan/mt, dipped to 108,310 yuan/mt in early trading, then its price center moved straight up to touch 108,760 yuan/mt, before drifting lower to close at 108,390 yuan/mt, up 0.26%. Trading volume reached 28,300 lots, and open interest stood at 206,000 lots, a decrease of 876 lots from the previous trading day, driven by bearish position reduction.

ACG Metals công bố vào ngày 1 tháng 9 rằng mỏ Gediktepe tại Thổ Nhĩ Kỳ đã sản xuất lô tinh quặng đồng đầu tiên vào ngày 31 tháng 8, đánh dấu giai đoạn tăng tốc bắt đầu. Công ty sẽ tăng dần công suất xử lý và tối ưu hóa hiệu suất nhà máy, mục tiêu đạt sản lượng tối đa vào cuối năm 2026. Mục tiêu sản lượng hàng năm ổn định của Gediktepe là 20.000–25.000 tấn quy đổi đồng. Thông báo đầy đủ cũng xác nhận mỏ đã sản xuất lô tinh quặng kẽm đầu tiên vào tháng 8 năm 2026, mặc dù ngày cụ thể và khối lượng không được tiết lộ. SMM ước tính sản lượng kẽm trong tinh quặng của mỏ vào khoảng 10.000–15.000 tấn kẽm hàm lượng trong năm 2026.
