SHANGHAI, Apr 10 (SMM) - The SS contract prices fell slowly last week. According to the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing, the global manufacturing PMI in March was 49.1, indicating a global recession in manufacturing sector in March. The SS contract prices dropped palpably. NPI prices fell to 1,045 yuan/mtu on high market supply. It is expected that the prices will run with occasional declines. Ferrochrome demand remained poor last week. The futures prices in overseas markets declined, and pessimism spread across the markets. Short-term ferrochrome market will still be in a supply surplus, and the prices will fluctuate with some downward potential. Costs of stainless steel thus will drop further. Spot stainless steel transactions were sluggish last week, and the market supply fell slowly since the downstream companies were less willing to restock. The contradiction between stainless steel supply and demand still existed. Price control of #304 stainless steel carried out by a stainless steel mill in east China beefed up the prices to a certain extent, thus the SS contract prices rebounded slightly. SMM expects that the SS contract prices will move rangebound within a wide range this week.
