Market opinions split over what are the reasonable levels for lithium prices.
Ouyang Minggao, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and vice chairman of the China Electric Vehicle Hundred People Association, said at the China Electric Vehicle Hundred People Forum (2023) that 200,000 yuan/mt or so should be a more reasonable level for lithium prices in the next few years.
Mo Ke, chief analyst at a research institute, said: “the price of lithium carbonate will likely fall to around 150,000 yuan/mt by the end of the year, and may even drop to around 50,000 yuan/mt in the future. Of course, this process does not happen overnight, there may be rebound along the way, but the overall trend will remain in a downturn.”
