SMM survey: what kind of metal do you like most in 2022?
According to a regulatory document on Thursday, chip company AMD will buy about $2.1 billion worth of silicon wafers from GE Core between 2022 and 2025, a revised agreement, according to foreign media reports.
AMD had previously agreed to buy $1.6 billion worth of chips between 2022 and 2024, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission in May. Wafers are large wafers that make computer chips.
The grid core was created by AMD when it spun off its chip factory business in 2009 and has supplied AMD since then. However, in 2018, GE Core decided to stop pursuing advanced process chip manufacturing technology.
Since then, AMD has turned to TSMC to supply the most critical parts of its computer processors, known as "small chips". Although TSMC has become its main supplier, AMD still relies on some components of the cell core to connect its chips together.
