Construction of the first wind farm project in Mozambique begins

SMM News: Pedro Coutinho, the project manager, said that the Namaacha wind farm is the first wind power project in Mozambique and will supply power to the grid operated by Mozambican Electric Power ((EDM)). The total cost of the project is about $280 million.

According to the plan, the wind farm will be up and running within three years, and more than 700 jobs will be created during the construction process.

In March 2018, the United States Trade and Development Agency ((USTDA)) announced that it would support developer eleQtra (Mozambique) to conduct a feasibility study on a project of the same size in the Namaacha region.
