Beijing (Gasgoo)- On Sept. 22, Great Wall Motor's ORA brand announced that its first SUV model will be officially named ORA 5. The new model will make its public appearance at the ORA 5 "Natural Aesthetics" design showcase on Sept. 25.

The name was decided following a public poll organized by ORA brand general manager Lü Wenbin, with options including "ORA Cat", "ORA 5,” and "ORA i5." ORA 5 received the highest votes and was ultimately selected. Mr. Lü explained that the numeric naming system is simple and memorable, aligns with international naming conventions for future exports, and will form the basis for a more systematic lineup strategy.

The ORA 5 will be the brand's first SUV and also GWM's first pure-electric SUV, marking a milestone in the automaker's new energy transition. The model has already appeared in the 399th batch of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's vehicle catalog in China.

According to filings, the compact SUV measures 4,471 mm in length, 1,833/1,844 mm in width, and 1,641 mm in height, with a 2,720 mm wheelbase. Optional features include LiDAR, front and side radars, and rear cameras.

The design continues ORA's signature "Cat" family styling, with a closed-off front fascia, round headlamps, wide fenders, and a coupe-like tailgate. Standard equipment includes a panoramic sunroof, while the model is powered by a 150 kW electric motor and a lithium iron phosphate battery from SVOLT.
